Estany des Ponts

Thanks to this project, 10 ponds have been created at Estany des Ponts: eight temporary rainwater ponds covering an area of 21,000 m² and two permanent ponds covering 4,400 m². In addition, 1,000 metres of new beach have been created on the western shore of Estany des Ponts for wading birds. 

Five safe breeding areas for waterbirds have been created at Estany des Ponts: three floating islets on the lake and two land islets inaccessible to people and predators. This environment is home to a wide variety of butterflies, dragonflies and other invertebrates, and is the habitat of the endemic Balearic toad.
   
Thanks to these restoration efforts, nature is beginning to flourish in this natural enclave where 160 animal species have been recorded, including 86 bird species such as the black-winged stilt, osprey, little grebe and grey heron, several species of orchids, and in its waters, the European eel and pipefish.
