The Renaissance wall
Remains of the 17th-century fortification adapted for artillery. Sant Ferran bastion and preserved watch post stand out.
Over the course of the 17th century, advancements in weaponry and military engineering led to the construction of a second fortified enclosure that better suited the defensive needs of the city. Its star-shaped layout, with low bastions, was ideal for placing artillery and withstanding impact from similar weapons. This new enclosure surrounded the original wall, leaving a space between both structures used as a patrol walkway. Today, only the bastion of Sant Ferran and some remains of the King and Queen bastion are preserved, as a bullring was later built within the enclosure. Structural elements such as the reinforcement band and a guard sentry box are still visible.
