Casal Can Canta
Renaissance casal from the 16th–17th centuries, preserved almost intact. Known for its balanced façade and Mallorcan Renaissance details.
Located in the heart of Alcúdia’s historic centre, Casal Can Canta —also known as Can Barrera— is one of the finest examples of the noble architecture that flourished in the city during the 16th and 17th centuries. Like other Renaissance casals, its façade was redesigned during this period to reflect the new stylistic language introduced after the Revolt of the Germanies (1521–1523), when humanist ideas from Ciutat (Palma) were embraced by the local aristocracy.
Can Canta stands out for the purity of its lines, the balanced composition of its façade and the characteristic elements of Mallorcan Renaissance architecture seen in its portals, lintels and ornamental details. Unlike other casals that later underwent alterations, this building has survived almost intact, preserving its original identity and its value as a testament to Alcúdia’s cultural and artistic transformation during the Early Modern period.
