El Teatre Romà
Roman theatre from the 1st century AD carved into the rock, later reused as a necropolis, with preserved cavea, orchestra and stage remains.
Located outside the Roman city of Pol·lèntia, near the area where historians believe the ancient harbour once stood, the Roman theatre was built in the 1st century AD as a venue for public entertainment and performances. The semicircular open-air structure preserves part of the cavea — carved directly into the rock, an uncommon feature among Roman theatres — as well as the orchestra and the foundations of the stage. Over time, the theatre was repurposed as a necropolis, as also occurred in the Forum. Today, burial structures carved into both the cavea and the stage area remain visible, illustrating the historical evolution and multiple uses of the site.
